BEER Cyprus

Beer lables from Cyprus, same sort of thing as the earlier Beer Asia post. The two Cypriot beers are very good, easily preferable to Carlsberg.

Mythos (Greece), Leon (Cyprus), KEO (Cyprus), Carlsberg (Denmark, but brewed in Cyprus).

Uni: UWE School of art, media and design even has a campus in Cyprus. Which is why they have a high enrolment of Cypriots. Definately one of my favourite Universities, I hear the Graphic Design course there is particularly good.

Σεφταλιά: Usually served with salad in a pitta instead of, or with souvlaki (kebab). I'd describe this as a cross between a meatball and a sausage. It's delicious and possibly my favourite food in the world ever; it's right up there with best. This is unique to Cyprus and cannot be found in Greece, Turkey, the Middle East or anywhere else in the world, unless of course maybe in a Cypriot Restaurant.

Wax Babies: Wax babies, arms, legs and other limbs can be found in many Greek Orthodox churches. After praying to a saint to cure an illness suffered by a baby, arm, leg, etc, they are given in thanks, usually left at a church bearing that saint's name.

Prostitute's House: A doorway in Hero's Square, Limassol's red light district. Sign on the door reads 'Knock on the door and if I'm in I'll answer'. Red light above the door probably indicates she's engaged and so there's a chair outside to wait on.

Graffiti: This is everywhere in Cyprus, especially in Limassol. It's not good graffiti either. A turf war between different football firms. This wall displays examples from local teams AEL, and Apollon and Omonia of Lefkosia. The numbers, usually written G1/Gate 3 etc, denote the area of the satdium where they sit and has become the adopted names of the firms.
